Please note the October date this year. We are moving to an October weekend for 2015 at the request of the centre so they can get more refurbishment done during November. The food news is that we get more daylight as a result!
This weekend is organised by Julian personally, rather than it being a Striders Club event. However, all Club members, their families and friends are welcome to attend. Please note that we may have to restrict numbers as we are reaching the centre limits.
Newlands Adventure Centre
The weekend is a fun introduction to fell running but it also attracts experienced fell runners from Spectrum Striders and other clubs, such as Hull Springhead Harriers. It is a fabulous, fun and exhausting weekend open to runners and non-runners, cyclists, walkers, drinkers – anyone!
Children are welcome! Children under 5 are free. Children over age 5 are full price as they cost Newlands the same as an adult.
There is a total of 5 runs on offer throughout the weekend – do one, do none, or do them all! For those people who do not wish to run there are usually a series of walks to choose from which may or may not include a coffee shop. Your choice.
Deposits are usually needed quite a few months in advance. Get more information from Julian.
From 6pm. The weekend begins at the Adventure Centre, followed by beers in the Centre bar!
No meal is booked for Friday as many are travelling. Food is sold at the Swinside Inn (about ½ mile away) from 6pm to 9pm. You can book a table at the pub in advance.
|Pre-breakfast||4 miles-ish run|
|Mid-morning||Run up Catbells – 6 miles-ish|
|Mid-afternoon||Hill session and team relays – 4-5 miles good fun (ish!). Fell walkers and cyclists do their own thing.|
|Option||4-6 hour fell walk, although usually there are ways to shorten the walk if that is too much.|
|Evening meal||at the Adventure Centre, followed by a quiz! There is a fancy dress theme. The quiz will be set by Spectrum Striders with Hull Springhead organising the rest of the evenings entertainment, so why not join in the fun!|
|Pre-breakfast||Run (if hangover allows) – only the toughest make this one!|
|Mid-morning||Long steady run around Derwent water – 11-12 miles ish!. There will be a long fell running option as well.|
|Finish||The weekend finishes with a hot meal at the Adventure Centre.|
Whether you are a runner or not, feel free to do your own thing. Maybe fell walking is more your cup of tea. Go for it! There is absolutely no obligation to take part in any of the runs advertised.
This is not an officially coached weekend. It is a group of like-minded nutters getting together to enjoy some winter training and socialising! This can be adjusted for ALL abilities. We will provide some shorter runs if it is needed.
