Sending E-Mail Messages to Us

Several people at the club have received messages with infected attachments, both at home and at work. Most of these have been caught by virus protection software. The main risk for spreading viruses through e-mail is via attached files. In order to minimise the risks, may we suggest the following.

Please install proper virus protection software on your PC. Keep the virus signatures up-to-date; preferably let the software do this automatically. Configure it to check outgoing e-mails as well as incoming. This is the best way to stop this problem at source. There are several completely free virus protection packages so there is no excuse!. Your webmaster uses AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition, available at http://free.grisoft.com.
Even though the current webmaster has a broadband link, please do not send large numbers of large files without prior arrangement. They can take a while to download!
Consider sending files by CD-R or CD-RW or floppy disk (if they are small enough).
