Striders Curry Night

Thu 2-Jul-2009

After evening training

We have a monthly curry night at the "Bay Leaf Indian Restaurant & Bar" on Harpers Road, Padgate, WA2 0PB.  For more details about the restaurant including a route map, please have a look at their web site.  Eat time will be as soon as possible after evening training, usually around 8:45pm.

It would help if you tell Bill Bradley or Julian in advance of the evening if you are planning to come.  This is not vital but it helps us warn the restaurant of likely numbers.  For recent meals, there have been over 20 Striders!

Striders Track Day

Sat 11-Jul-2009

Start 12 noon

followed by a BBQ

at Julian's at 5pm

You are invited to our Club Track Day. This is a sports day with races for the kids and adults.

The Club book the Victoria Park track for a whole Saturday afternoon and have a series of races over the course of the afternoon. You can do one or more races or do them all. To make this a family friendly day we have kids’ races in between the adults’ races. Alternating adults and kids gives all a rest between events and a better chance of running several of the events. The elder kids, aged over 10 or 12, often run with the adults and sometimes beat them. There is an open invitation to our friends and rivals from Helsby RC, Warrington Road Runners and Warrington AC if they want to join us. Please feel free to ask any of your friends to the track day. It is much better if we have 2 or 3 races at each distance.

Why don’t you come down and try this event? This is not just an event for the whippets in our Club; it is an event for anyone in our Club. We hold several heats for most races so we can match runners against runners of their own ability. In the past some of the partners have had a go and enjoyed it. It would be nice to see lots of the new Club members and their spouses come along.

Ask Julian or your coach or any of the committee about the day.

Some of us keen runners try and do all the races. However don’t worry you can just do a few and get a bit more rest in between events. To help plan which you want to do the running order is 1 mile, 400m, long jump, 800m, 3000m, 100m team relays, 400m team relays, 100m fun-medley. It is meant to be a fun day and not just for the little kids. The last race of the day was introduced as some of the “big kids” asked why they could not have an egg and spoon race too. Usually this race involves 50m egg and spoon, 50m skipping, 50m sack race and 50m running backwards although the silly race may change if we don’t have enough skipping ropes, so can those with kids please bring their skipping ropes.

Don’t forget to bring a folding chair or blanket and drinks, sun screen (and hopefully not a cagoule) to the track. The toilets and showers will be open.

After the run Julian hosts a BBQ at 7 Smithills Close in Locking Stumps (postcode WA3 7LT) starting from 5pm. Julian provides kebabs, sausages and a glass of Pimms and lemonade. The kids are welcome to come too. I appreciate if as well as bringing a bottle or some beer to drink that everyone brings a home made salad, a pudding or something else so that we have enough to feed 50 people. Can you please tell me what you like making so that you can make what you like and I don’t get 20 potato salads?

Looking forwards to lots of offers of food…..
