Burtonwood 5 Mile Race Sat 19-Jul-2008

Can I apologise on behalf of the two clubs (Burtonwood Bridge Amateur Rugby League Club, assisted by Spectrum Striders Running Club) who were organising the 5 mile race. The runners covered only 4.6 miles as the lead bike took a wrong turning, so that everyone ran a short course. Given that the same person was on the lead bike last year it was surprising to us all!  I hope we have not disappointed too many of you who were running for a 5 mile time. Next year I assure you it will be back to our officially measured route.

Six runners ran without numbers but went through the finish and were timed.  This has caused quite a lot of extra work and a consequent delay in sorting out and uploading the results.

Results are now available:  please click here for 5 mile race results or for fun run results.

Spectrum Striders handicap 5k Tue 15-Jul-2008

More than thirty runners completed the 5k (approx distance) handicap, with most of them finishing within one minute of each other!  Thanks to Julian for working out everyone's handicap so accurately and for organising the event.  Thanks to Linda Owen, Debbie Read and Janet Redpath for finish recording and to Janet for doing a great job sorting out the results.  Thanks to the marshals out on the course - I'm not sure who they were as I arrived late!  Apologies if I've missed anyone else out who helped.  The results will be uploaded here as soon as possible.

Due to time passing and the small number of people going to the Tennis Centre, it was decided to cancel the quiz.  Thanks to Sue & Dave Southern for the preparation work they did.  They will store away the questions to use in the autumn at the annual Striders quiz.

Track Day & BBQ Sat 12-Jul-2008 - thanks

Many thanks to all who were involved in organising and running the annual track day at Victoria Park.  As ever, particular thanks to Julian for his efforts in organising the day and for hosting the BBQ at his house.  Thanks to the weather for being so dry!

Also, we celebrated Eric Pendleton's 80th birthday (which was in May) with a glass of Champagne at the BBQ courtesy of Dot & Eric.  Many happy returns, Eric.

Marshals & helpers needed - Birchwood 10k race

We need marshals and helpers for this race.  Please contact Julian to volunteer if you can, by phone or by e-mail.

It is not a difficult job to be a marshal. You get clear instructions and guidance to your marshal location. Please see if you can help. Hosting races like this is how we as a Club put something back into the north-west running community. If you have any particular preference for jobs, volunteer early and pick your job!

Remember: Spectrum Striders members are not normally allowed to run the race so help out instead!

Pie & Peas Race Wed 6-Aug-2008 - entry form available

Birchwood 10k Road Race

and  2k fun run

Birchwood, Warrington

Sun 17-Aug-2008 10:30am

Entries received so far:

323 (by 19-Jul-2008)

This is the 25th Birchwood 10k Road Race.  It is run over the usual accurately measured 10k course in Birchwood.  There will also be a fun run at 9:45am, run over a course of approximately 2k (not accurately measured) mostly on paths.  Chip timing will be used again in 2008.  Please follow the instructions on placing the timing chip on your ankle.

This is a major event and has attracted over 800 entries in recent years.  Please note that there is a limit of 1000 entries, which may well be reached before the day; many local races have sold out before race day this year.  Entries on the day will be accepted (at extra cost) only of the entry limit of 1000 has not been reached.  If you pre-entered and are unable to run, it will be possible to transfer your entry to another runner - please see the 10k "Race Information" page for details.

Parking is at the Birchwood Shopping Centre in Car Park 4 and other Centre car parks if car park 4 is full.  Please do not park on the surrounding roads and only use proper toilets!  Please remember that this is a regular busy shopping day at ASDA and the Birchwood Centre so please treat shoppers with every courtesy.

Full details of the race (including downloadable entry forms, a map of the route and race information) are available on this site.  Please click here for more information.

Please note: you will need to put a 52p stamp on your SAE and the closing date for receipt of postal entries is 10-Aug-2008.
