Introduction
The Birchwood 10k race is Spectrum Striders Running Club premier event. Can you please let Julian know if you can marshal or help in any way? It takes over 70 people to arrange this event, so it does require a big commitment from the Club to ensure it is all done safely and to the quality that we try to deliver. It would be nice to see some of the newer members of the Club helping out, as so often it is the same faces who are there helping. Remember that marshalling is what we all put back into the running community & what you can put back into our Club in return for the coaching or companionship you get in your running.
I know it is sometimes hard to plan in advance, but can you confirm if you can help ASAP.
Helpers timings
08:00 About 10 people are needed to set-up the course, finish signs and race headquarters.
Note that the race HQ for 2008 is in the empty Red Cross charity shop which is the last shop unit before the Silver Birch exit from the Birchwood Shopping Centre.
0830: We need an early group of 2 or 3 marshals to manage the car parks.
09:00 to 09:15 Marshals need to be allocated and get to your stations for the fun run which starts at 09:45 or for the 10k at 10:30. Note: In 2002, a 7 year old runner got seriously lost as we did not get the marshals in position soon enough, so please come early. This year the chief marshal is yet to be confirmed, but seek him out in Car park 4 to register when you arrive (he will be wearing the Chief Marshal's bib!). Runners will be arriving from 08:30 onwards, so we must be ready.
A Reminder - Striders Don't Run The Race
A reminder to all Spectrum Striders Club members, especially new members. As first claim members of the Club you can't run the Birchwood 10k. It takes too many people to organise, especially in the middle of the holiday season. If you want to run you have to ask permission of the Club committee and provide strong grounds as to why the committee should make you an exemption. Even if you are allowed to run, we expect you to provide 2 marshals as well. For 2nd claim members you can run if you wish, but to be fair to those of us who would love to run but can't you are requested to endeavour to provide us with at least one adult marshal.
Perks!
There is a free buffet and food for all the marshals & helpers after the race & prize giving is over in the Silver Birch (usually about 1pm).
