Another excellent Striders event. Many thanks to Julian for sorting the handicaps – with 19 out of the 28 finishing within a minute of their estimated time this year (68%).

Thanks must also go to David + Janet Redpath, Mary Garnett, Mike Girvan and Andy Whitehead for sorting out the finishing times and the positions and for all the marshals who helped around the route. The presentation and the buffet in the Tennis Centre went well and the evening was finished off in style with a quiz from Les Hewitt (his first).

They are trying to raise money for a deprived school in South Africa (near Cape Town) and create an event the community will take part in, especially the primary and secondary school kids will take part in. We don't want to run this event ourselves but given the timing it can be useful. Next year we may use a route with less (or no) road sections on it. There were several compliments passed on the overall organisation, the marshalling and the lead bike. Terry Coles was the main link to the school for this event, although I also helped a bit. The buzz at the race and the enthusiasm of the kids of all ages made it all worthwhile.
