Are you a complete beginner and do you want to start running?

Were you a runner in the past or have you been injured and are coming back?

A team of qualified coaches and their helpers will help you to get running, working towards a parkrun 5k at the end of May, in June or July.

Scheme Information

The Club is running the Spring Training Initiative again this year.

The coaching & advice is aimed at complete beginners and novice runners.  It may also be useful if you've been away from running for a while and want to ease yourself back into running.

If you want to join the Spring Training Initiative, please click here to download an application form.

[If you are a young runner who needs parental permission, please use this application form instead.]

The scheme is available to men and women. It is aimed at complete beginners and novice runners although it may also be useful if you've been away from running for a while and want to ease yourself back into running. The course is completely free and you will receive coaching from UKA qualified coaches.

If you have not exercised for some time or have any health problems, we would recommend that you consult your doctor before commencing any form of exercise.

The coaching usually starts on the first Tuesday in April at 7pm at Victoria Park and Thursday at 7pm at Birchwood Community High School.  The sessions will run each week until the start of July and you are encouraged to try and attend all of them but good results can still be obtained if that is not possible.

The training will take place on the following days:

Tuesday 7pm: Victoria Park, Warrington

Thursday 7pm: Birchwood High School

Saturday 9am: We will support and encourage you at the parkrun held at Victoria Park Warrington.

In addition to parkruns, held nationally every Saturday, you may wish to consider the following 5k races:

At the end of the training scheme, in July, the group of runners may wish to join the club and merge with the Improvers group on a Tuesday and will build up to the Thursday run to allow the group to join the main Club run.  There are also various groups which run on a Sunday.

If you are already a Club member and are looking for a way of easing yourself back into running, this may be the ideal opportunity.  You will be able to get back into the routine of running at the Club sessions without having the pressure of running on the main Club runs.  You will be able to build up your confidence and lengthen your runs slowly so that in the future you should be able to join in with the Club sessions.

Please note If you have not exercised for some time or have any health problems, we would recommend that you consult your doctor before commencing any form of exercise.

Remember: Linda and John Owen would welcome anyone from the Club who could help or perhaps act as running buddies for some of the beginners.
