Spectrum Striders Fixture, Sunday 1st Mar 2009
- Start Time: 11:00 a.m.
- Race Venue: Birchwood Forest Park, Moss Gate, Birchwood
- Presentation Venue: Birchwood High School (to be confirmed)
For more information about Birchwood Forest Park, including events, a map, history, etc, click on the Park Ranger image.
Birchwood is located about 5 miles from the centre of Warrington on the north east edge of the town. If you are travelling from the Liverpool or Wirral areas, Birchwood is beyond the M6. From Liverpool, continue on the M62 past the M6 to J11.
Route recommendation: From Wirral it is normally quicker to use the M56, rather than through the tunnel and through Liverpool. Turn on to the M6 north-bound, go over the Thelwall Viaduct and follow M62 Manchester.
Detailed directions are provided below.
Changing facilities with showers are available at the Ranger Centre, next to the car park and finish line.
The Course
- The race route is 1 small lap and 2 large laps starting and finishing in the main field at Birchwood Forest Park. It is a total of approx 5 miles.
- We always like to make full use of all available hills and the race starts on a downhill slope at the edge of the park, then runs past the Ranger Centre and up over the old bunkers, past the back of the bandstand and away from the field along a small track.
- At the end of the track, on the first lap, the route returns to the park on the grass alongside Birchwood Way.
- On the 2nd and 3rd laps, the route turns left and skirts the trees alongside Birchwood Way for a short distance, before going up a gentle slope and along another track. After crossing the footpath by the new roundabout, the course winds around and then up the hill next to the roundabout, returning to the park via a fast flat section alongside Birchwood Way.

This is about 3½ miles away at Birchwood Community High School, WA3 7PT (the previous venue the Silver Birch is permanently closed due to redevelopment at the Birchwood Shopping Centre). Directions as follows:
Please park in the school car park, just past the school and around the back to the right, not on the road. The school car park may be fairly full as there is also a church service in the school on Sunday mornings. If the car park is full, please park in one of the Birchwood Centre car parks. Enter via the Community entrance at the side (facing the car park and playing fields), not via the school front entrance. |
